A Day In The Tantalus Range(teaser edit)
Wednesday, May 20th, 2009Thanks to Derren at Black Tusk,Crossland,PK,Dan and Matty for making it happen out in the unreal super coastal mountains. We were able to ski three lines in the Tantalus range this day by using 4 or 5 heli assists. We climbed and skied the west rib of mt serratus,we reached the next line from the back of mt dione’s south ridge by climbing through a little notch in the ridge then descending the east facing side that spills onto the north end of the serratus glacier(a steep exposed face running onto an open glacier),we then went to look at this couloir on the west face of tantalus and dione and it was perfect so after being dropped on the dione glacier we made a short traverse on mid 5th class rock and snow(which can be harder than you think with alpine ski boots and fat skies) to the entrance of the couloir and it was a couloir in the true sense 50 degrees on average and 300 metres or more in length. We named it the ratty couloir after matty richard sent it first. This was one to remember for sure and quite possibly a first descent on the west side of mt dione. These mountains hold so much beauty.Big spirits in the red tit col.cawww caww.
